Why parents love it

A baby spends more hours on their mattress than anywhere else — often 16 or more hours a day in the newborn months. The YappyMemory II is built around the orthopedic demands of that reality. The firm side uses natural sisal — a plant fibre derived from agave leaves — which provides the non-yielding support that a developing newborn spine needs. Unlike memory foam, which compresses under pressure, sisal maintains a consistent, firm surface that holds the spine in a neutral position during the critical early months of development. It is also completely silent when the baby moves — no rustling, no noise that disrupts sleep.

As the child grows and their musculoskeletal development progresses, the mattress flips. The memory foam side adapts to the body without pressure points, providing the softer, cushioning support that suits a heavier, older child who no longer requires maximum firmness. Most parents make the switch somewhere between 6 and 12 months. The flexible orthopedic foam core in the middle maintains the mattress's structure across years of daily use — it holds its form rather than compressing over time, which is what the term orthopedic means in practice.

It is worth noting that if certified natural materials are the primary concern across both sleeping surfaces, the YappyAir — which uses OEKO-TEX certified natural latex on both sides — is the stronger choice on those grounds. The YappyMemory II is the right choice when orthopedic spinal support and a firm natural sleeping surface are the priority.

Features & Benefits

Orthopedic spinal support from birth: the firm sisal surface holds the developing spine in a neutral position — the recommended configuration for newborns
Eco-friendly memory foam soft side: adapts to the child's body without creating pressure points; appropriate for babies who have outgrown the need for maximum firmness
Orthopedic flexible foam core: maintains the mattress's shape over time; preserves structural integrity across years of daily use
Aloe Vera treated cover: breathable, temperature-regulating, anti-allergic; removes easily and machine-washes at 30–40°C
Anti-allergic throughout: materials selected for minimal allergenic risk across all layers
Dual-sided design: firm sisal for newborns, memory foam for older babies — one mattress that adapts as the child develops
Complete the cot setup: pair with the YappyShield waterproof fitted sheet and YappyLux satin fitted sheet — both available separately on Tiny Tugz; you need at least two top sheets in rotation from day one

Which side should I use for a newborn?

Start with the sisal side — the firm side. Newborn spines are in active development and benefit from a supportive, non-yielding surface that holds the body in a neutral position rather than allowing it to sink. The sisal is a natural agave fibre that is firm, breathable, and completely silent when the baby moves. As the child grows — typically from around 6 months onward — flip to the memory foam side for a softer, more adaptive feel.

What is sisal and why is it used in a baby mattress?

Sisal is a natural plant fibre extracted from the leaves of the agave plant. It is one of the firmest natural fibres used in mattress construction, making it well suited to the newborn stage where spinal support is the primary requirement. It maintains good ventilation, keeps the sleeping surface breathable, and is completely silent when the baby moves — no rustling or noise that could disrupt sleep.

What is the difference between this mattress and the YappyAir?

The YappyMemory II is the orthopedic support choice — its natural sisal firm side provides the consistent, non-yielding surface that best supports a developing newborn spine. The YappyAir is the natural materials and sustainability choice — both its sleeping surfaces are OEKO-TEX certified natural latex, and neither side uses synthetic foam. If orthopedic spinal support and a firm natural sleeping surface are the priority, choose the YappyMemory II. If certified natural materials across both sleeping surfaces and temperature regulation are the priority, the YappyAir has stronger verified credentials on those grounds.

What sheets do I need for this mattress?

You need two layers. The YappyShield waterproof fitted sheet goes directly onto the mattress and protects it from leaks. The YappyLux satin cotton fitted sheet goes on top as the surface the baby sleeps on. Buy at least two top sheets from the start so one is always in the wash and one is always on the cot. Both are available separately on Tiny Tugz in 120×60 cm.

When should I flip the mattress from sisal to memory foam?

There is no fixed rule, but most parents make the switch somewhere between 6 and 12 months — when the child is rolling independently, more physically active, and has passed the stage where maximum firmness is the primary consideration. The memory foam side adapts to the body without pressure, which suits an older, heavier child better than it does a newborn.

Is this mattress anti-allergic?

Yes. All materials across all layers — sisal, flexible foam core, memory foam, and the Aloe Vera treated cover — are selected for minimal allergenic risk. The Aloe Vera treatment on the cover also contributes to breathability and temperature regulation.

How do I wash the cover?

Remove the cover and machine wash at 30–40°C. Do not bleach. Iron on medium heat if needed. Hang dry — do not tumble dry or dry clean. Air the mattress itself regularly between washes.

What size cot does this mattress fit?

120 × 60 × 9 cm — a standard European cot size. Fits the YappyIcon cot precisely and any other standard 120 × 60 cm cot.

Where is this mattress made?

Made by YappyKids, a brand with over 10 years in the nursery furniture and bedding market.
