Why parents love it

Most activity mats are designed to look good in a product photo. This one was designed with an Estonian children's physiotherapist to actually support what happens during those first months on the floor. The contrast levels in the colour palette are calibrated to stimulate visual development without overloading a newborn's still-developing nervous system. The six edge activities — a hidden mirror, crinkle shapes, movable wooden buttons, a squeaky star, a measuring tape, and a castle motif — are sequenced to grow with the baby rather than overwhelming them all at once.

The fabric is GOTS-certified organic cotton throughout. Wooden elements are sanded multiple times and finished with Osmo sealant approved for chewing. Every mat is handmade in Estonia, and smaller decorative details are cut from surplus fabrics sourced from the Estonian clothing industry — which means each mat has minor variations that make it genuinely unique.

Features & Benefits

GOTS-certified organic cotton: every fabric component certified; wooden parts finished with baby-safe Osmo sealant approved for chewing
CE certified: meets all EU toy safety requirements
Handmade in Estonia, every mat unique: surplus fabric details sourced from the Estonian clothing industry mean no two mats are identical
Perfect for: tummy time from birth, supervised independent play, developmental floor time, and as a standout newborn gift

Which size is right for you?

The mat is available in three sizes. The 80×80 cm is the most compact option — easy to move between rooms and ideal for smaller spaces or as a travel mat. The 100×100 cm offers more room to spread out and suits most home setups comfortably. The 120×120 cm is the largest option, giving the most floor space and staying useful longest as the baby begins to roll and move. All three sizes include the activity arches and are available in the same colourways.

What age is this activity mat suitable for?

The mat is safe from birth and designed to be used from day one. It was co-designed with Estonian children's physiotherapist Maarja Säde to be age-appropriate at every developmental stage — from early tummy time and visual stimulation as a newborn, through reaching and grasping with the arch toys, to floor play and independent exploration as the baby grows.

What makes this different from other activity mats?

Two things stand out. First, every feature was developed in collaboration with a children's physiotherapist — the contrast levels, the placement of activities, and the choice of sensory elements are all calibrated to support development rather than just look appealing. Second, the materials: GOTS-certified organic cotton throughout, CE certified to EU toy safety standards, and wooden parts finished with Osmo sealant approved for chewing. Most activity mats at this price point offer neither.

What are the edge activities, and what do they develop?

The mat edges include six built-in activities: crinkle circles that introduce different textures and sounds; a rectangular mirror hidden behind lace for self-discovery; movable wooden buttons for fine motor practice; an envelope-shaped pocket containing a squeaky star for cause-and-effect play; a castle motif as a visual focal point; and a measuring tape along the edge so parents can track growth. Together these support visual development, fine motor skills, tactile exploration, and early cognitive development.

What do the activity arches include?

The arches are 150 cm long and attach to the mat with Velcro for easy removal as the child grows. They hold a set of sensory hanging toys that can be repositioned between the arches. Specific toys vary by colourway — check the product images for the exact set included with your chosen colour.

What is the mat made from, and is it safe for newborns?

The mat is made from GOTS-certified organic cotton throughout. Smaller decorative details are made from surplus cotton fabric sourced from the Estonian clothing industry. Wooden elements are sanded multiple times and finished with Osmo sealant specifically approved for chewing. The product is CE certified, meaning it meets all EU toy safety requirements. It is safe for newborns from day one.

Which size should I choose?

There are three sizes to choose from. The 80×80 cm is the most compact — easy to move between rooms and well suited to smaller spaces or use as a travel mat. The 100×100 cm suits most home setups and gives comfortable room for floor play. The 120×120 cm is the largest option, offering the most space and staying practical longest as the baby begins rolling and moving. All three sizes include the activity arches and come in the same colourways.

Is this mat a good newborn gift?

It's one of the stronger newborn gifts at this price point — immediately useful from day one, with a long useful life, certified safe materials, and a level of developmental thought behind it that most parents will notice and appreciate. The handmade nature and unique fabric details also make it feel considered rather than off-the-shelf.

Where is this mat made, and who designed it?

Every mat is handmade in Estonia by Karloova. The developmental design was created in collaboration with Estonian children's physiotherapist Maarja Säde. Fabric is sourced from GOTS-certified suppliers and from surplus materials from the Estonian clothing industry — which means the decorative details vary slightly between mats, making each one unique.
