What does the multipurpose rail actually do?

It does two things. First, when the side panel of the YappyIcon cot is removed to allow a toddler to climb in and out independently, the rail maintains the structural integrity of the cot frame — without it, removing the panel weakens the overall rigidity of the piece. Second, it acts as a low protective guard rail that prevents the child from rolling out of bed during the night while still allowing them to get in and out freely during the day. Both functions work simultaneously once the rail is installed.

When should I add the multipurpose rail?

The rail is not needed from birth — the cot is fully enclosed and structurally complete from day one. It becomes relevant from around 18 months when the child begins to climb and you want to start removing a side panel to give them independent access. Buying it at the same time as the cot is fine; equally, it can be added later when the transition is approaching.

Which side does the rail fit?

It can be installed on either the left or right side of the YappyIcon cot — whichever suits your room layout. There is no difference in function or fit between the two sides.
